Snow Day

I don't know about any of you, but I would like to thank the University for their speedy cancelation of class yesterday. In case you can't tell, I'm being sarcastic. Of coarse they wait until I shovel my driveway, leave the house and get stuck on Exchange street before they cancel.
Any-who, we will just pick up with unit 2 on Monday and adapt the syllabus as we continue. This week in class we covered Models of communication and the very important CCCD process. For posting this week, I would like you to focus on channels of communication. Think about your day today and list all the different channels you used. For example;

Today, I received a text message at 6am letting me know of a school cancelation that was not mine (Tease). When I woke up later, the first thing I did was check my email. I read several messages but decided to wait to reply until later. On my way to the office I made two phone calls regarding weekend plans. After arriving, I had a face-to-face meeting with my advisor. Later, I used the instant chat through Gmail with a colleague about plans for this evening....(As you can see, I have already used 5 different channels before 11am)

I woke up this morning to a text message at 5:45 am just to tell me that Kent State Tuscarawas campus was cancelled (if only they did that yesterday) Then I checked my email just before my class at 11 just to be sure it wasn't cancelled. I emailed my Aunt back who lives out of state. Then my boyfriend called me on my way to class. Then during class my dad called and left me a voice mail asking me about the weather and the snow day. After class I listened to the voice mail and then called him back but got his voicemail, so I left him a message. After lunch I got on facebook and chatted with a friend for awhile. And posted on my Human Evolution Lab's website about the current assignment. Then I went to work where I answered the phone taking questions on Rec memberships

I woke up this morning and texted my girlfriend. I went to class and texted my friend Dan because I was bored. I went to the Michael Shwartz center and spoke face to face with three different people about how my scholarships work. I called an apartment that I am trying to lease on the phone and then had a face to face meeting with the apartment manager as well. I plan on texting some friends in a little bit to go out and have fun on this wonderful Thursday evening, and I hope to have some meaningful face to face conversations tonight as well.

Today I woke up, much like I have everyday of my life. Sent a few texts to some friends, and talked to my mom. Later in the afternoon my sister called to tell me about the creeper who is stalking her friend and waits outside her dorm for her. After that I got on Facebook and talked to two of my friends for about an hour. At the same time I was on aim talking to some other friends. Now just about half an hour ago I replied to an email from a girl in one of my classes asking for notes.

I woke up at about 6am to a text for the second day in a row that other campuses were closed. I went to class where we worked in groups on an assignment. After classes I went to work at a daycare dealing with people face to face all day. On break I sent a few text messages to friends. After work I went to some friends house for dinner (again face to face) and the talked to my mom on the phone.

This morning I woke up at 9:00 AM to a text from a girl I work with telling me she would work open to close for me. Next I called Time Warner Cable for the tenth time seeing if they were going to arrive on time to fix my cable. Later rather than sooner he arrived and we talked face-to-face on the many issues I have with their services then proceeded to call my mom and vent.

I received a text at 8:00 this morning from a friend who wanted to meet at the rec center. So, as I was getting ready I checked my e-mail and called my parents. By 10:00 I had sent four e-mails, made two phone calls, and sent and recieved a few more texts. Then I went downstairs to meet my friend so that we could walk to the rec center. When we arrived we found three other friends and we all worked out together.

Yesterday I woke up to a text saying another campus was closed, and then went back to sleep. Then I woke up periodically because my room mates were up and being noisy so i told the to be quite, face-to face. Then my room mate yelled to me that school was cancelled. Then I texted my friends and ade plans to hang out that day, and from then on it was pretty much face-to face communication.

I texted my friend happy birthday and later talked with her on the phone about plans tonight. I texted back and forth with a few of my friends just saying hi and whats up. I came and checked my facebook where I had new messages and replied to them. I talked to my boyfriend on the phone while he was on break for lunch. I woke up this morning at 7:30 am and came downstairs and talked face to face with my friend who slept on my couch. Then I drove to work and once again had a face to face conversation with my boss. I checked my e-mail and wrote back to my advisor about classes. After working for a while, I was exchanging text messages with a friend who asked about plans for tonight. When I got off of work I called my dad and talked to him for a bit. I then came home and chatted on Facebook and AIM with some friends from home.

I woke up this morning around 8am, rolled over to my phone and checked my e-mail/text messages. I had an e-mail from my one of my professors and he was cancelling 9am class. A little while later my roommate walks into my room and tells me that the snow is too bad and that I'm too sick to leave the house. I agree, so I call my boss' cell phone and leave her a message telling her I'm too sick to come to work today. I spent the rest of the day sleeping and responding to text messages from my friends/co-workers/customers. Throughout the day I had about ten minutes of face-to-face, ten minutes on the phone, and probably over a hundred text/e-mail messages.

Like everyone else, I woke up and started texting right away. When texting started to take too long I changed over to a phone call. I used email to talk to a teacher about an assignment. After checking my email, as always comes facebook. I wrote on a couple people's walls and said some happy birthdays. I communicated paying my bill through old fashioned hand mail. I used my house's white board to tell all my roommates how much they owed me for electricity.

This morning I woke up at 9 to a text message from my friend. I called my friend back and we talked about our plans for the super bowl tonight. My mom also called me a bit later. I walked downstairs in my appartment and talked face to face with my roomates. I checked my emails and facebook and commented back to a few people. It is only 10:44 and I have already over 5 forms of communication.

I woke up this morning to my roommate telling me that she had read on the internet that Kent State Tuscarawas campus had cancelled their classes. Then I got up to check my email to see if anything new had been posted about Kent State classes being cancelled, sure enough a couple of hours later it was. Then I recieved a text from someone asking if Kent had cancelled classes, I replied and said "yes". After that I sent my mom a text saying how happy I was Kent was cancelled classes for the day, because I was to sick to even think about walking to class to begin with.

Yesturday I woke up and immidiately checked my email. Then I went on facebook and messaged some friends. I also left some picture comments on their crazy nights out in kent. Then I got a phone call from my mom and talked to her for about an hour. Then I called my friends about a party later on. After that I received a few texts from friends asking where I was and what time I was going to get to the party. Finally when I went to bed I kept texting my friend who lives an hour from kent to see if she got home okay.

Wednesday morning I talked face-to-face with my roommate about the snow. Received many, many texts about cancellations & making plans for the day. I talked to my mom on the phone. I also used facebook to make plans with some of my friends. I read & responded to e-mails from my professors & student organizations. I was also at work that day & left notes for residents in their mailboxes. I think I used six channels of communication.

I usually wake up in the morning to my cell phone alarm going off, which really shows how attached I am to my phone, and I feel like I am a moderate cell phone user-receiving and make calls, texting occasionally, and listening to voice mails. So my main communication channel is my cell phone. I haven't really talked to many strangers today, but it depends if the situation arises. I live with and go to school with my fiance so have a strong communcation channels using all types. I receive lots of emails, but dont really send any out.

On Wednesday, I woke up to a text message at 6am that informed me that MANY of Kent's regional campuses had been closed for morning classes or all day. I went back to sleep until my alarm woke me up for class. When I woke up, I immediately went to the computer to check my Kent e-mail for cancelations from my professors. (Since Kent State refused to cancel until last minute! So frustrating) Luckily, my 9:15 class was canceled by my professor. I also received a text message from a friend in the class letting me know that we didnt have class. That was nice of her! :) Fortunately, before my next class, (which happened to be Comm.) Kent State realized the weather was getting worse and canceled classes for the rest of the day. I was really glad to hear this because I was REALLY sick. It was a nice day off to rest and try to get better. However, even though I was sick I made a few phone calls... to my mom to see if she had work because shes a school bus driver, to work to see how things were going, and of course my boyfriend. :) I also had frequent face to face communication with my roomates, which happens unavoidable considering I live with 4 other people!
